A Friend of the Trees Makes Supporting Them Part of her Legacy

Ida HoltsingerIda Holtsinger’s deep love for nature is evident in the way she leads her adventurous life, always surrounded by her favorite companions—trees.

Throughout her career with the federal government, she had the opportunity to travel to several countries such as Israel, Korea, and Japan, where she cherished the natural beauty that surrounded her.

Ida’s fondness for trees, in particular, has been a constant source of joy for her, whether it’s the giant Ohia Lehua trees that graced her former home in Hawaii or the lush greenery that adorns her current home in Virginia. For Ida, nothing compares to the happiness that comes from being in the presence of trees.

“Nature and trees are essential for humankind’s well-being,” she said.

“Food is pretty important, shelter is pretty important, and once you get past Maslow’s hierarchy, there are trees.”

Because of her love of nature and trees, Ida has been a longtime supporter of TPL. She has set up a charitable gift annuity (CGA) and a bequest inclusion for TPL, which will benefit her niece and the organization simultaneously. She says that these gifts are smart for taxes and nonprofits and demonstrate her desire to impact the places that are closest to her heart.

Ida firmly believes that green spaces should be accessible to everyone, everywhere. She thinks that greenery is essential to people’s well-being and admires TPL’s efforts to make parks and other green spaces available to all, especially in cities. In particular, she is impressed by the organization’s work to bring greenery to urban areas.

TPL is dedicated to creating green spaces and parks for all communities to enjoy. With the help of friends like Ida, TPL is able to continue our mission of connecting everyone to the outdoors.
